How it works

1

Paste your notes

Drop in a quote, a definition, a paragraph from your textbook, or a sentence in French. Anything you'd otherwise be reading over and over.

2

Mark the keywords

Click the words you want to recall — or let Cloze suggest them for you. Brackets save with the topic so you can re-open and tweak any time.

3

Practise & repeat

Read mode for self-rating. Typing mode for harder recall. Streaks keep you honest and Cloze re-surfaces what you got wrong.

What you can do

[ ]

Two ways to practise

Reading mode covers words behind blocks — click to peek. Typing mode turns blanks into inputs with live feedback.

Smart hiding

Your bracketed keywords always disappear first. Pull the slider further to start hiding the connective tissue too.

Streaks & friends

Daily streak tracking keeps you honest. Add friends to see each other's streaks and stay accountable together.

Smart suggestions

Click "Suggest" and Cloze proposes keywords from your text. Confirm the ones that fit, ignore the rest.

Made for revision

Built for GCSE, A-Level, and university students. Works for languages, history, biology, anything written.

Yours, always

Topics live in your account, sync across devices, and stay private. Reset, edit, or delete any time.

Common questions

Quick answers. Email support@clozenotes.co.uk for anything not covered here.

Is Cloze free?
Yes — Cloze is completely free. Unlimited topics, reading mode, typing mode, daily streaks, friends, folders and image diagrams. No card required and no upsells.
How is Cloze different from flashcards?
Traditional flashcards test isolated facts. Cloze hides the most important words inside a real sentence — keeping the context that helps recall stick. It's based on the cloze deletion technique used in language-learning research, and it's faster to set up: paste a paragraph in 30 seconds, no decks to build.
Does Cloze work on phones?
Yes — Cloze works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac or Windows. There's nothing to install. Add it to your home screen for an app-like icon.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Cloze runs in the UK and EU on Cloudflare and Supabase. We collect only what's needed to run the service, never sell data, and use only essential cookies. You can export or delete everything from Settings at any time. See the privacy policy for the full version.
Who built Cloze?
Cloze is a personal project built in the UK by a school student. The source is open under the MIT licence on GitHub.
Can teachers use Cloze with a class?
Yes — Cloze is already free for individual students with no class-size limit. Teachers wanting bulk paid plans for a whole department can email support@clozenotes.co.uk and we'll sort something out.
What ages is Cloze for?
You need to be 13 or older to make an account. We follow the UK's Age Appropriate Design Code: profiles are private by default, no public leaderboards, no profiling and no advertising.
