Terms of use
These are the rules for using Cloze. Plain English; please read them. By using the service, you agree to them.
What Cloze is
Cloze is a tool to help you memorise things by hiding keywords in your own notes and practising recalling them. It's a study aid — not a tutor, not an exam-board, and nothing it does is a guarantee of any exam result.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian is OK with you using Cloze.
Your content
You keep ownership of whatever you put into Cloze — your topics, paragraphs, images and so on. You grant us only the rights we need to store, display and process that content so we can give you the service. You agree not to upload anything you don't have the right to use, or anything illegal or seriously harmful.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- Upload other people's copyrighted material if you don't have permission.
- Use Cloze to harass, threaten or deceive anyone.
- Try to break into accounts, scrape user data, abuse our infrastructure or bypass paid features.
- Resell access to Cloze, or use it to build a competing service.
We may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules. You can stop using Cloze and delete your account whenever you like, from Settings.
Free and paid plans
Most of Cloze is free. Some features (voice mode, AI diagrams, spaced repetition, mistake review, cross-topic analytics) require a paid subscription — currently Cloze Study (£2.99/month or £19.99/year) or Cloze Scholar (£5.99/month or £39.99/year). Prices are in GBP and may change with reasonable notice (we'll email before any change to your existing subscription).
Subscriptions, billing and cancellation
Subscriptions are billed in advance through Stripe. They renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. You can cancel any time from Settings → Billing — your plan stays active until the end of the current period.
14-day cooling off (UK consumer law): if you've just signed up for a new subscription you have 14 days to change your mind and get a full refund — but only if you haven't used the paid features yet. By starting to use the paid features within that window, you waive the cooling-off period for the unused portion.
Refunds
Outside the cooling-off period, subscription fees are generally non-refundable, but we'll handle clear billing mistakes or service failures fairly. Email support@clozenotes.co.uk and we'll look at it.
Service availability
We do our best to keep Cloze running smoothly but we can't promise it'll be available every minute of every day. We may pause the service for maintenance or end it entirely with reasonable notice — if we shut Cloze down, you'll get the chance to export your data first.
No warranty
Cloze is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee that it will be error-free, or that it will help you pass any specific exam. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud or anything else that can't legally be excluded.
Open source
Most of Cloze's source code is open-sourced under the MIT licence on GitHub: github.com/isaacchenyl-dev/Cloze. Using the source code is governed by that licence; using the hosted service is governed by these terms.
Changes to these terms
If we change anything important, we'll bump the "Last updated" date at the top and let you know in-app or by email. Carrying on using Cloze after that means you accept the change.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction.
